The article reviews three REITs (AGNC, IVR, EFC) and three BDCs (FSK, TRIN, CION) that I hold in my Schwab IRA. I provide insights on the performance, dividends, and future prospects of each investment.

10% Yields Or Higher
Most of these shares are either floating today or will float within a year. We're also including a common share where the high yield and discount to book value are big enough to be quite appealing. Of course, it also carries more risk. We're also going to highlight one lower-risk equity REIT that I find attractive following the recent decline.

Ellington Financial: Shifting From The A To E Preferred Shares
Ellington Financial offers multiple income securities, including preferred shares and baby bonds. The company's net interest income fell due to increased interest expenses, but other income from market fluctuations helped offset this. Ellington Financial's balance sheet shows heavy investment in reverse mortgages and minimal impact from commercial and consumer loans.

Losers Of REIT Earnings Season
After covering the Winners of REIT Earnings Season last week, Part 2 of our Earnings Recap focuses on the worst-performing property sectors and common threads shared by these laggards. While there were no major "bombshells" this earnings season, there were pockets of relative weakness seen in the interest-rate-sensitive property sectors - net lease and office - along with goods-oriented sectors. Surging interest expense - not property-level fundamentals - was again the culprit behind much of this pain, underscoring the continued challenges facing more highly leveraged private real estate portfolios.

Despite huge dividend yields, this sector is getting hammered. Shares could achieve this upside even without trading at Net Asset Value. Another peer already saw a similar recovery.

More Pain For High Dividend REITs
Mortgage REITs are not buy-and-hold investments and investors who focus solely on dividends are getting burned. Preferred shares offer better performance and stability compared to common shares in mortgage REITs. Equity REITs are also being negatively impacted, with investors seeking higher yields elsewhere.
